PRIVACY
Your files stay on your device.
Obsidian Black Ltd operates FeedBench. The tool reads, checks, maps and compares your files in your browser. There is no account, no email step and no upload: nothing you check is sent to us.
What the browser keeps
A new project is temporary. Files you choose or paste, reference and context files, mappings and results stay in memory while the tab is open; they are not written to browser storage, cookies or the address bar, and closing or refreshing the tab discards them. With Save on this device, the whole project, including the exact contents of every source file, is stored in this browser's site storage until you delete it from Open saved work or clear the site data. Anyone using the same browser profile can open it. Clear this session starts a new temporary project and leaves saved projects and downloaded files in place. Preparing for offline use stores the tool's own files, never your files, reports or projects.
File names are not saved. File contents, values and column names never appear in page addresses, tab titles or download names.
Files, downloads and the camera
Files are opened with your browser's file picker or pasted as text, and checked in a background task in the same tab. Text in a file, including HTML and web addresses, is treated as text: it is never run, opened or fetched. FeedBench does not use your camera or a scanner.
Downloads are created in your browser and saved where you choose. The diagnostic PDF and diagnostic CSV contain counts, rule codes and record numbers, not your values, file names or hashes, unless you choose to add the first 30 records to the PDF after previewing them. Three downloads contain your data: the CSV preview holds the mapped values; the mapping recipe holds column names, constants and, for any value you changed, the old and new values with a hash of the source file; the project backup holds the exact source files with their hashes. Store and share them as carefully as the original files.
Network requests and links
Loading the site retrieves its own pages, scripts, styles and fonts. Hosting providers may record ordinary request details such as IP addresses and paths. Once loaded, the tool may fetch more of its own files from the same site, such as its checking component and report font; these requests never carry your files, values or results. Links to other SmartFACT products open only when you select them and carry no tracking marker. No file value is ever placed in a link. Those sites have their own privacy notices.
Feedback and support
FeedBench has no built-in problem report or feedback button, and nothing is sent to us automatically. To ask a question or report a problem, use the SmartFACT support form; to share an idea, use our feedback form, where leaving your email address is optional. Both links carry only the tool's name. Describe the problem with a synthetic example where you can, and review any downloaded report before you share it.
Optional analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand visits to our pages and the tool. The Google tag stays off until you accept. Rejecting analytics does not affect the tool.
Google receives page views, browser and device details, connection information and cookie identifiers. Our events use fixed names and values only: in the tool, a page view with a fixed page name and address. They never include file contents, file names, column names, values, hashes, results, query strings or fragments. Referrers are reduced to their origins on these pages and left out in the tool. When you follow a link to another SmartFACT product or service, one event (suite_cta_click on these pages, suite_next_step in the tool) records only this tool's name, the destination product and a fixed name for where the link appeared. Advertising personalisation is disabled. Offline use and downloaded files never send analytics.
Your analytics choice is remembered for 180 days in a preference cookie shared across smartfact.ai and its subdomains, including product websites and apps. Use Analytics settings on any site, or Change preference in the tool, to accept or reject analytics across the suite. Google Analytics cookies remain specific to each host and last up to 180 days. Open pages check for changes; other sites remove their analytics cookies when next opened or resumed. Saving projects on this device and your analytics choice are separate controls.
Google processes analytics data under its own arrangements, which may involve processing outside the UK.
